Matrix Fight Club – Q and A with the Creator

Welcome to our Matrix Fight Club in altered gravity.

Now get ready for some ALTERED GRAVITY fights. Through the use of 727’s or similar sized aircraft using parabolic flights. All thanks to Kickstarter and you.

Check out this youtube video (jump to 3:12 (Martian) or 4:40 (Lunar)) to see how gravity will impact the fighters. Please note that 90% of the fight time will occur in Martian and Lunar gravity. And not zero gravity (5:43), so that the fighters can actually move and fight.

Below I do a little Q & A with myself.

Customized crowdsourced fighting event?

1) – Yes, the plan is to create a crowdsourced fighting event, customized by all of you. With the only caveat being that it must take place in ALTERED GRAVITY. Through our Matrix Fight Club.

Why? If this happens, it’s because of all of you. So please set it up how you want.

It’s your customized crowdsourced fighting event – And our Matrix Fight Club in altered gravity

  • All fighters that qualify (check the fighter’s wanted post to see if you do). If you submit your info to tom@matrixfight.com, you will be entered into the fighter’s pool for our event.
  • Fans then select one fighter in the fighter’s poll on the right hand side of this site that they want to see fight in ALTERED GRAVITY. (Note that the voting pool will be reset after the selection pool is finalized, any early votes only count as a possible forecast of the future).
  • Fans get to pick one additional fighting style that you want to see as our play in fight in ALTERED GRAVITY (2 of 3 = MMA, what else do you want to see that you know would be great if it were to happen?)
  • Fans pick the ring girl of our event.
  • Fans can be the judges. If you pledge to watch the fights through Kickstarter, then pledge the extra $15 to pick the winner of any decisions as a crowdsourced judge. This is important, as winners are more likely to fight in future events.

2) – There are a lot of fighting styles that we all want to see. Vote on the poll called fighting style to pick your play in fight. The fighting style with the most votes wins. At least two out of the three fights are guaranteed to be MMA styled fights, just FYI.

Why? Just know that hyper gravity will force the fight to the ground. Therefore, MMA styled fights are ideal. You can vote to make all the fights MMA styled fights if that’s what you want. If we used boxing as a counter example, then we would be forced into 25-30 second rounds and would need to take breaks during every hyper gravity period where your body weight is times by roughly 1.5-1.8. So consider this before voting on a fighting style. Head blows will not be allowed during the hyper gravity periods.

3) – Ring girls. If you want to be a ring girl, post your photo on our facebook page. Then I’ll add you to our poll so that the voters can pick you as their ring girl.

Why? Every fight needs a ring girl. So any interested girls should submit your photo to our facebook page, then tell all your friends to come support you. Winner, as picked by the fans gets a free 5k (retail value) ticket in altered gravity for a few minutes of work. Plus all the exposure that comes with it.

4) – If you pledged to watch the fights through Kickstarter, then for an extra $15 you can be a crowdsourced judge.

Why? Any fight that goes to a decision will be determined by the people that pledged to be a crowdsourced judge. This is important if future altered gravity fighting events occur. As the winners will be more likely to fight again. Your vote will be made public on this website.

The Kickstarter plan?

1) – Spacefighting? The dawn of spacefighting?

Why? It’s just the name of the Kickstarter film campaign. Better name would probably have been ALTERED gravity fighting, or just our Matrix Fight Club. But what do I know?

2) – Kickstarter campaign to raise 445k.

Why? We need to rent a 727 or larger aircraft with pilots because the few parabolic flight companies around the world do not want to help us. This includes 45k in processing fees from Kickstarter and Amazon Payments.

If we were to use a parabolic flight company, it would cost us 191k to have three 5 minute rounds. Or 291k to have five 5 minute rounds. But they don’t want to help us and we need an aircraft and pilots, so I’m asking for more money to help ensure that I can obtain a large aircraft to pull off our Matrix Fight Club in altered gravity.

If the expenses of an aircraft and pilots cost less then the pledge goal. Then a portion of the extra pledge money will go towards the prizes for fight of the night, knockout of the night, and submission of the night. If we receive lots of support and double our stretch goal, then I’ll allocate that money towards setting up additional fight nights in altered gravity.

3) – Only $25 to see fights in altered gravity. There is a $15 early bird special if you act fast. And a $20 special if you tell all your friends.

Why? $25 is the most common Kickstarter pledge amount, which seems like a reasonable amount to play apart in creating something for the first time ever.

4) – Currently 9 reward options exist on Kickstarter, so make sure you check them all out.

Why? My initial vision had a lot more rewards. But they fell out of Kickstarter’s guidelines. It’s okay though, this is how you can support our Matrix Fight Club by pledging for any of the following:

  • $3 – Twitter shout out to increase your street cred. Plus you go on special thanks page (all higher pledges get the same treatment.)
  • $15 – Early bird special (first 500). Be the first to watch history happen. Have access to fights.
  • $25 – Be the first to watch history happen. Have access to the fights.

The plan to stage fights in ALTERED GRAVITY?

1) – Fights will be staged in an open ring with dimensions of 10×20 feet if we obtain a 727. Two of the rings will have 3 sides and one ring will have only 2 sides. The ceilings are 7 feet high. The dimensions will be even bigger if we obtain a larger aircraft.

Why? This is what it is if we use a 727 aircraft. Maybe a cheap ring or net can go up to enclose the fighters from the other fights. The 727 will be flying a parabolic flight as seen here.

2) – Three simultaneous fights will be recorded for entertainment’s sake. The fights will occur as King of the Ring styled fights. With the winners holding down their ring for the duration of the parabolic flight.

Why? Optimizing the time and entertainment value is a priority. If a fight ends in a K.O. or submission, and if the fighter wants to continue, then we should let him continue for the duration of the parabolic flight. Otherwise, a new set of fighters will replace both fighters.

3) – The gravity conditions will rotate between 25 to 30 seconds of micro-gravity (less than 1g) and 25 to 30 seconds of hyper gravity (greater than 1g) per each parabola. There will be 5 parabolas per round and then a break before fighting resumes in the next round.

Why? This is how parabolic flights work. And this is gravity’s impact on body weight:

  • Martian (Your weight times 1/3 = your new weight) (170*1/3 = 57 lbs)
  • Lunar (Your weight times 1/6 = your new weight) (170*1/6 = 28 lbs)
  • Zero (You’re in a state of free fall, you’re weightless with regards to the aircraft) (170*0 = 0 lbs)
  • Hyper (Your weight times 1.5 to 1.8 = your new weight) (170*1.5 = 255 lbs)

4) – Below are two different examples of how each fight might take place in regards to fighting in altered gravity (note no head blows during hyper graivty). Example 1 fights through hyper gravity. While example 2 uses rest breaks during hyper gravity.

Proposed Fight layout:

Example 1: (15 minutes of altered gravity fighting. Total 15 min x 3 fights = 45 minutes total of altered gravity entertainment.) Note, I’m sure that we can max out the parabolic flight for a longer time period then this. This is just an example.

Who’s on board?

36 People

  • 6 fighters
  • 6 corner/cut men
  • 3 refs
  • 3 docs
  • 6 replacement fighters
  • 1 organizer/fight replacement fighter if absolutely need be (me)
  • 1 Ring Girl
  • 5-10 possible spots to be offered on kickstarter (these will open up later, follow me @matrixfightclub on twitter and sign up to the mailing list for the latest updates).

My goals?

  1. I want to set the stage for the fight of the century. I want to see someone get caught and float back 10 feet after catching an uppercut, cross or head kick. That could possibly change the world of fighting as we know it.
  2. Or set up something so bad-ass, that we can guarantee that there will be a parabolic fight night 2.

The problem areas, risks and concerns?

1) – I have my concerns with the hyper gravity period. Mainly the entertainment value goes way down, but also the safety factor as the force of an elbow would be times by 1.5 to 1.8. Which might just knock everyone out. I want to see people get hit and float 10 feet in the air, and not get crushed during the hyper gravity periods on the ground.

So, there will be no head blows during the hyper gravity period. The fight may continue during hyper gravity with the goal of submitting the opponent. Both fighters would then be stood back up at the end of the hyper gravity period and be ready to go toe to toe during the beginning of the micro gravity period.

2) – There are only a handful of companies around the world that run parabolic flights. And they are not interested in helping us.

But I’m convinced that you are all that matters. If we can get enough demand, then I guarantee someone will step up and fill the void to help us bring to you what everyone wants to see. It’s only a matter of time if the demand is there. I’ll keep you updated through twitter, Kickstarter and my mailing list, so be sure to connect with me.

The goal is to rent an aircraft, find certified pilots, and to do our parabolic flight in uncontrolled airspace. Thus removing the need to comply with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or the NASA.

Full Disclosure:

  • This is my way far out promotional campaign for my All Natural PED strength sleeve. Easily the #2 athletic performance enhancer on the market behind only altering gravity of course. Make sure you tell your workout friends about the All Natural PED strength sleeve because none of this would have been created without it.
  • Some website owners/publishers may receive benefits for informing their audiences of this Matrix Fight Club and its Kickstarter campaign.

No one will have any power if their feet arent planted on the ground.

    • Peashock February 27, 2014 at 2:56 PM #

Agreed for the most part. The majority of the fighting will take place in Lunar and Martian gravity. If it was zero gravity, then I would agree 100%. The only way to fight would be submission type moves.

You can check out this video to see what to expect from the environments that the fighters will be in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ieR8hIXUIg. Jump to 3:12 (Martian) or 4:40 (Lunar).

      • Peashock February 27, 2014 at 2:59 PM #

I don’t expect fighters to get knocked out often, but the uncertainty of the environment will leave them out of position more then usual, which could allow for a flurry of strikes in a more back and forth type fight.

        • Peashock March 1, 2014 at 12:00 AM #

Plus the lack of force/power due to the lowered gravity, will cause both fighters to not respect each other’s power. If neither fighter is afraid of being hurt, then they will take more chances, which should lead to a more entertaining fight. Which is pretty much the whole goal here.
